Having trouble getting in nursing program

I am having a hard time getting or even apply to a nursing program I am more behind than the people I started with because of my lower grades. I go to a university in california. Do you think it is a waste of time and effort to just try and go into a LVN program then bridge to a rn? Or simply retake the classes to boost my GPA? I'm nervous of the fact that I'm not sure which nursing programs don't have a point system. I know nursing is what I want to do! Please help!!

An LVN sounds like a great idea. Think of how it would be a little easier to already have skills AND THEN go into an RN.

How long of an experience do you have to have to bridge into an rn after becoming an lvn?

You mention that you are having trouble getting into a nursing program, but keep in mind that an LVN program is also a nursing program. It might not be the same type of nursing program as the RN program, but it is still a basic nursing program. Some of the LPNs/LVNs might regard it as a slap in the face to refer to one as a "nursing program" and the other as an "LVN program."

Anyhow, LVN-to-RN bridge programs are either closing down in California or scaling back their operations due to budgetary issues that stem from the recession. Obtaining an LVN license before bridging to the RN program might take more time in the long run.

FWIW, my LPN program had over 400 applicants for 40 spaces so the competition was just as stiff as the RN programs in the area. I'd make some phone calls and find out which programs you are eligible for and go from there. Good luck.
