Having issues with MSN Practicum, location and MSN preceptor

I am currently one class away from obtaining my MSN in Nursing Education. I am expected to complete a practicum of 125 hours, but have had one location refused by the University.

I am having difficulty locating both a location and an MSN-educated RN who is willing to serve as preceptor for this part of my education. I am willing to travel if necessary, and would also be willing to look in other areas than just pain management (which is my specialty).

Has anyone of the other members encountered a similar issue, and if so, how was it handled? If anyone has suggestions, please post here. I am a 4.0 GPA student, member of Sigma Theta Tau and various other nursing associations, ANA, ASPMN, NNSDO and others.

I am completely at a loss, heartbroken and discouraged. I can not secure a new job without the MSN, and can't receive the MSN without the practicum...etc etc etc.

Thank you for input!

Hi JennaJonRN,

Sorry to hear about your situation.

Concerns about finding a preceptor for MSN programs (particularly online) have been discussed in previous threads.

I have not been able to find a preceptor since I began the MSN program 3 years ago. I have the practicum to complete in order to finalize my degree program.

I hope you found a preceptor. If not, have you tried the community colleges, state universities, or public health-clinics? Also, check which sites / facilities your college has a contract already in set in place. Other options may be approaching a physician who may be working with an NP (usually don't need a contract with a private office).

I wish you the best! Let us know how you're doing.
