Having a very difficult time.

Nurses New Nurse

Hello, I have been a L.P.N. since October of 2010 and still have not found work. I live in GA and you would think I would have no problems finding a job just like so many told me while I was in school, but that unfortunately is not the case. I have applied to hundreds of hundreds of jobs since receiving my license and even though I have this credential, it's not enough. Many of my former classmates had to move out of state just to find work but this isn't an option for me. They want no less than 2 years experience in most facilities. Well how am I supposed to receive experience if no one will give me a chance? I have applied from Emory to Wellstar, small family owned businesses to home health to even travel nursing from full time to temporary and no luck. So, I decided to continue my education to go for my B.S.N., I will be enrolling at a local university this summer and hope to be in the program the following fall. With all of this in mind, I need at least part time work for cost of living or it's basically impossible. I am beginning to fear that nursing is not as job secure as so many talk about and I'm beginning to second guess my career choice, even though I truly loved every experience I had during my program, and I feel this is what I am meant to be, to serve others. I am truly worried since I want to have a great career (one day even possibly getting my masters) and would like to start a family within the next 2 or 3 years. So with all of that said, if anyone has any advice for my next step or if you know of any companies that are hiring in Ga or any work from home positions available you would be such a blessing in disguise and I am grateful for any advice that is posted. Thank you!

I think reading this forum definitely spells out that the "job security" of nursing is a big 'ol myth. Your story is not unusual. You may have to work in a position other than nursing while you get through school.
