Has Anyone Had/Having Online Science Courses With Labs Approved?!

i have applied to two schools. one school will take online courses w/ labs as long as the school is accredited. the other school told me that even though the paperwork i sent them looked good that:

"the nursing board requires that labs be hands-on (traditional lab class on a campus). they will not accept online labs, or let you sit for the rn exam if you have a&p or microbiology on-line."

this is a very nice professor who went out of his way to help me, but i have never heard this before. i know many people here take online classes on their path to sitting for the boards so i was wondering if anyone had ever heard or seen this info before?! does anyone know how i could call those giving the boards to check with them myself?! i live in nj. thank you.

That does sound like it makes sense. But I had 2 different colleges tell me that as long as the curriculum matches a "healthcare" format, then youre fine. Because to be honest, I did CCConline thru Northwestern Jr College... and no where on my syllabus or transcript does it say the course was online. It just says that it covers 'X' subjects and has a lab component.

Thanks!! I have a call into the NJ Board of Nursing to see what they say. Given the amount of people taking online courses I agree that I should be okay. Figured I would check as I am not the luckiest person in the world.

The only thinking that might tip them off is that I live in NJ and will be taking classes out of state. Maybe if I stick with the same school for all it wouldn't even register with them. :lol2:

It varies from school to school depending on what their requirements are. I took all of my sciences online (API, APII, and Chemistry) through EduKan and my school took them in transfer. It doens't note on your transcript that the courses were taken online.

Since you live in NJ, have you checked into Passaic County College? They offer API, and APII online with a lab component and the tuition is pretty reasonable. I believe it is 93/credit. Check out www.pccc.edu

Ohhh...thank you so much!! I didn't know about this school and I will call them today or early next week. That could work out perfectly.

Yeah, I talked to a counselor at my school because ALL my sciences have been online- Bio, Chem, A&P I&II and Micro. He said just don't mention it to anyone, b/c it doesn't indicate anything on your transcript. I've gotten A's in all of them (except Micro, just finishing up and crossing my fingers for an A), and I think that if you do well in the nursing program no one will question you.

I took my A+P prereq's online through SUNY/ Cayuga County Community College and had no problem transfering the credits for a Master's-entry second degree program. The tuition was cheap and the classes were only a couple weeks in the summer...super convenient, I was able take tests from hotel rooms while on vacation. The transcipt didn't indicate the classes were online either.
