Hand-off report

Published

I am a nursing student and recently worked in a hospital that used a system where they gave report over the phone. It is called Voicecare ... has anyone heard of this or used it?

I've used phones as hand off reports, but it was basically just an answering service and the new shift just retrieves messages. I perfer one on one hand offs so you can ask questions, but the phone was good if you wanted to get out and the new shift hadn't quite gotten ready yet.

I've worked & been a student in a hospital that used VoiceCare.

It's just like any other taped report, just utilizing the software installed in the phone system. It had some nice features, like pause (in both recording & playback) and the ability to create a "header" for a patient with basic info (name, age, dx, admitting MD, allergies, etc.) that could be attached to each shift's newly recorded report without having to be re-recorded.

i don't think it's like taped report because there was more information on it than just two nurses. it even had an update from the pt about the patients therapy. they let us (the students) practice on it too. i didn't know if this voicecare was very common or if it is new. just wondering if i'll see it again in other rotations.
