Gre?

For those of you who had to take the GRE... how long did you study before taking it? Any recommendations you have would also be welcomed.

Thanks,

I only studied about 6 days because a new program opened up nearby and had a tight deadline. I'd suggest a month. Get a review book, take a practice math and verbal test, and see what you need work on. Then review those areas, and take practice tests until you're comfortable.

I studied for a couple of months before I took it but I am older than you and had been out of school for 5 years, you may not need that long. BTW, I didn't go online and study for the written part and didn't do as well as I thought I would on that part ( I've always received good marks on written assignments). Someone I know who took it said that the GRE website had practise writting execises that really helped him. Good luck!

About 3 months

Studied casually about 3-4 monthes and then intensely for about 1.5 months. Scored well enough, but I tend to be fairly intense and my length of study may have been overkill.

The important part is it's done!

A month should be sufficient time. I've been out of school for WAY more than 5 years, which is why I was concerned that I only had 6 days to prep, if I was to get scores by the admission deadline (which I just barely did).

I took a review course that was about 2 months long. The course was expensive but my employer paid for half of it. I took a pretest and scored under 1000 and in the end scored over 1250 after the course. It was money well spent. I also recommend taking no less then 5 full length (CAT) practice tests including both essays. I will tell you that when I took the first one I ran out of time on each section. When I took the final pretest I had several minutes to spare on each section. A big improvement in time management and pacing myself. I hope this is helpful.

I took the princeton review online. I did all the lessons and really worked hard on it for about 2 months. I got 1300 combined score and 6.0 AWA.

I definately think it's worth it to take a review course. Don't sell yourself short on this one.
