Ok I was being a dork and looking through my husband's baby book and found his birth record. For his mom's gravida, it said "../II" Does anyone know what this might mean. It's hard to type what the denotation actually looked like, but it was 2 "."'s on top of a horizontal line, with "II" underneath. This was from 1978 BTW. Just curious if anyone is familiar with this.

We use that around here all the time, docs have to legally on scripts...... you use this for up to 4 technically-- (years ago I took a pharmacy tech course)
its basically one= i with a line between the line and dot and for 2 ii with a line between the lines and dots and so fourth up to and including 4. then they can write 5 but now they also have to write out the number spelled as well.
ie, Vicodin ii tabs PO q6 hours PRN for pain ....and you would see the line between the lines and dots. I uses it every single time I write numbers 1-4, the reason is so that there is no question if it is an "i" or an "l" or "1". We in my area write the orders ourselves most of the time and then the doc signs. So I am writing an order like the above often--when you might not put a dose cause they only come on the one dose --or sometimes even if I include the dose.
Get used to seeing it as it's common.

So probably G2/P2. Is your husband a second child?

i'm curious too-- how old are you? i graduated from nursing school in the mid-90s and we were taught to chart that way that looks totally foreign to you. two dots over a horizontal line then two vertical lines under that horizontal line. that's how i chart "2" when i get an order, for example for 2 tablets of percocet.

I just graduated not too long ago and they are still teaching us this as well.
