Gpa

Ok guys, question here. I have a 2.97 gpa. all of the graduate schools say they require a 3.0, or you will be put in on conditional status. Has anyone here been accepted with anything below a 3.0, or know of anyone? I still have a semester to pull it up, but I have this sinking feeling that 3.0 is the bare minimum. Also, if you go to school part-time, do you still need that one yr experience?

I'm not in graduate school yet, but I know of a few people who didn't have a 3.0...one of them had a 2.8. There isn't competition (at least where I live) to get into a graduate program (except for CRNA programs). A 2.97 shouldn't be too much of a problem. I'm pretty sure University of Phoenix will take down to a 2.75. Many times the GPA requirement isn't set in stone; a high GRE score, a great essay (stating your intentions specifically) and interview do go a long way and will make up for a few points under 3.0.

Conditioinal admission shouldnt be any big deal. Conditional status allows them to account for the fact that at least some of our classes were taken when were younger, less responsible and less focused. As soon as you complete a certain number of hours in the program with a certain minimum GPA you are moved to unconditional status.

Most schools have conditional admission IF they have plenty of seats available for the pool of applicants. At schools where admission is very competitive conditional admission is probably harder to get.

I don't know if you are still interested but I thought I'd tell you not to worry about the 3.0 thing. A bunch of my friends and I just got in to some of the top nursing grad schools and most of us were right below the 3.0. We went to great undergrad programs, have some exoperience and I guess wrote great essays.

That is very encouraging to hear. Well after all is said and done, I have a 3.15, but that is for about 75 hours, so I don't know what mine would be for the last 60, eeek. I wish I knew how to figure that out lol.
