Got a promotion!

Okay, this is totally just me sharing my excitement because I can't do it at work without stepping on toes: I got promoted!!! I've been at my current facility for about 6 mos. and just became a med aide, which I'm really excited about. I finished my training, exam, and audit by the DON so I'm working it on my own now and I'm LOVING it! I'll still work the floor like I used to at least a few times per month which is good, so I can give up-to-date info when I help with updating care plans and make sure I'm getting enough hours.

I'm so happy!

Congrats on your new promotion!

That's really terrific! I'm sure you wouldn't have gotten that promotion without earning it, so congrats !!

Good luck to you. I love passing meds. It really gives you extra insight into the residents and their life histories.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing the good news!

Congratulations!!

How hard was the course? I'm thinking about taking it sometime in the next few months.

Dondie, it was very easy. I think it varies a LOT state-by-state but where I live the requirements are that you must have worked as a CNA/Caregiver for at least a year beforehand, then there is a study book that I pre-read, then a 4 hour course, then several days of training with the current med aide and then an audit by the DON to watch how I was doing things and be certain I wasn't making any errors. After that, I was clear to do it on my own. Mind you, at my facility they do not have med aides handle any narcotics or PRN's, which simplifies the job a bit.

It definitely varies by state - around here it's a much longer course, BUT the girls I know who've taken it said it's not that HARD, just a lot of memorization to pass the test.

Awesome :)
