Got accepted in NURSING!

Published

I'm super excited and scared. I got accepted at the Jefferson campus at Jeff State. It's an hour away from my house and just don't know what to expect 😳

Congratulations! I wasn't sure what to expect either when I started nursing school, but scared/excited was how I felt too. There's a lot of hard work and dedication involved, because on top of lecture, you'll also have clinical, skills lab, simulations, paperwork, projects...

Instead of memorizing information, you'll be expected to understand, apply, prioritize, and analyze what you've learned, both in class and in clinical. I recommend getting an NCLEX book (I like Saunders Comprehensive Review) and start reading it now. Even if you don't understand everything, it's a great way to get used to the content and types of questions you'll encounter in nursing school. Practice, pratice, practice NLCEX style questions. I started reading my NCLEX book the spring before I started nursing school, and it really has helped me with the tests.

In clinical, be willing to get your hands dirty (not literally, wear gloves lol). What I mean is, take care of your patient. If your patient needs help brushing their teeth, help them. If they need to be changed, help them. Don't assume that because you're going to be a NURSE, you're above doing simple things (or bedbaths) for your patient. You might be embarrassed at first, but just imagine how the patient feels. If you need help with something, don't be afraid to ask.

Ask questions if you don't understand, but also be willing to do your own research and problem solve. Always be prepared. Bring a few sharpened pencils to class the day you have an exam (I don't know how many students have asked me if they can borrow a pencil). Best of luck! :)

Wow thanks! I'm new to this app as well so I'm kind of getting used to, it's been helpful so far.

Congrats on being accepted. I cant wait to be in your shoes.

Super excited! And I'm sure you will soon!!😀
