Good Reference Material?

I am a ccu nurse. Our unit is a ten bed unit at a small community hosp. I am also a fairly new nurse.May will be two years. Our unit rarely has ped patients.Most seriously ones are sent to a larger hosp. with peds ccu.I was informed that a new peds Dr. was coming on board and that our unit will be accepting peds patients. My question is. What peds material does anyone recommend to do a basic assessment and have some basic info on peds heart and lung conditions?:confused:

    Yours is a simple question, but I'm afraid there's no simple answer. Assessing a peds patient is really no different than assessing an adult except for vital signs norms which change with age. Those can be found in any peds textbook.

    Will your unit (you describe as a CCU) only be accepting peds patients with cardiac issues, or will you be accepting peds patients with a broader range of issues? This is where things get really complex, so it's important information.

    Our unit touches on different issues.Our pt's usually adult. I can count on one hand the babies and toddlers we have had since I have been there. Any advice on reference would be greatly appreciated.

    Have you looked at Pediatric Nursing Made Incredibly Easy? For the cardiac stuff you could look at Essential Pediatric Cardiology. And Pediatric Pulmonary Pearls can help with the respiratory angle if you find that there isn't enough information in PNMIE.
