Good assignments?

I am teaching a mental health nursing course next semester to undergraduate students and I am looking for suggestions for good meaningful written assignments to give students. If they are going to put the work in, I want them to really take something from it!

Any ideas?

My favourite assignments are based around recovery, person centred care, individualised care, service user involvement and family involvement

Impact of mental illness on pain and pain on mental health.

How would you explain and offer treatment options for somatic pain/sx.

Differential Dx. You have an inpt psych pain c/o SOB or abdominal pain. What assessments do you do? What nursing interventions do you try? When do you contact the MD? does it matter if it's 3pm or 2am? What if this is their 5th time having same complaint in the past 2 days with no significant findings?

Boundaries!

Personally this is my pet peeve. I was an MHW prior to going to nursing school so I was very familiar with boundaries and the importance of them. I've always been blown away by the poor insight some nurses have on their boundary violations. Who's needs are being met?!?!

Have you ever seen a nurse have questionable/poor boundaries? What was the situation? What could the impact on the pt be? What would you do if it was your coworker? Are boundaries in Med/surg different than psych?
