Going Home

[i tried to post this once already, but couldn't find it; my apologies if I'm just a dork! lol]

Hi All,

New guy. :nuke:

My father and grandfather (and g-grandfather, etc.) were all born and raised in Central, Pickens county, SC. He's been military all his life (hence I never really had a "home" state).

I live here in California, and will graduate and take the LVN/LPN boards sometime at the end of this year. I hope to get into a step-up program to RN sometime in the future, but plan on working as an LPN until then.

What I would really like to do is move to SC. Have wanted to since I was a kid (I'm 45 now.) What is the job outlook like down (up?) there for LVN/LPNs?

I know here in CA, they are really hurting for nurses at all levels, and I have already had job offers from staff developers hungry for nurses at nearly all of my clinical sites! (Talk about an ego boost; usually the prospective employee is asking the employer for a job, not the other way around! lol.)

I really don't mind passing meds at a LTC facility (it's good experience for a new nurse anyway) while I look into getting my RN, but I also don't want to leave a sure thing here in CA to find myself having to work at Sears because there are no facilities hiring (especially new grads!)

And speaking of new grads, will I have a problem working in SC with a license from California? I took a look at the SC Board of Nursing website, but it's a bit confusing as to which form I need to fill out to transfer my license (if this is possible.)

Your input would be greatly appreciated! :yeah:

I'm sure there are plenty of LTC facilities hurting for LPNs in SC. As far as LPN pay, I really have no idea. I started at $20/hr with my BSN in Greenville County. However, housing is DIRT CHEAP. My first apartment was $430 a month. I could pay at least $1300/mo for the same thing here in NYC, where I make way more money, but spend all of it on housing.

You will need to endorse your CA LPN to the SC SBON. See if there's a licensure by endorsement form on the SBON website.

and you may want to check out the education situ. in SC , at least recently it was very cheap to go to state school, if you maintained a certain average......i dont live there, but i have friends there....good luck

Nope, it's an Anne Geddes....

I'm enjoying NYC for the time being, but will probably be heading back south to Greenville/Spartanburg when grad school is over.
