Going Back and Resumes

I posted previously about going back into Nursing after a long absence. I am working on doing all of the things that the TxBON has told me I will need to do to reactivate my license. I have applied for my temporary permit, and hopefully will be receiving that any day. I will begin my refresher course on the 19th of this month.

In the meantime, I've been scanning job listings and even have had a couple of friends call me with leads. I'm trying to decide if I should go ahead and start applying for jobs, or if I should wait until I'm completely done with the refresher. Since I will have my Temp permit in hand shortly, it's not totally inconceivable that I could get hired. However, I am wondering how I should word my resume. Should I include a cover letter that states that I have been out of practice for awhile, but am working on bringing my skills up to date?

Also, what is a good site for LVNs needing assistance with their resumes?

Thanks!

I wish I had some answers to give you. I'm in the same boat. I'm an RN who's been out of work raising my family for 12 years. Last time I worked in the hospital was in 1987! I did take the refresher course, but I'm agonizing over my resume and cover letter, too. Anybody know how to address the years of not working?
