GI lab?

I don't have any experience or know any nurses who have worked in a GI lab. Is this an area a nurse with narcotic restrictions could work in?

I don't know much about the GI lab except through other nurses who went to work there from the ER where I used to work. I believe that sedation is involved when they do a scope so I'm not sure a restriction would be compatible with this job. Remember this is third hand knowledge garnered from old friends in the midst of talking about sports & loved ones. Good Luck!!!

I have a good friend who works in a GI clinic and I was asking her about possibly getting a job there. She said there are controlled substances on site (I forgot what kinds she told me) but the RNs RARELY (like twice in 4 years) give them. Sedation is done by an anesthesiologist and if a patient is very nervous, they try to get them back quickly and under sedation. She LOVES her job. She told me she didn't think my 6 month no controlled substances restriction would be a problem.

Thanks! I've got 6 months, too. I applied to a GI lab job today.
