Getting work in Canada?

Hi everybody,

I'm new to this forum and I would like to ask people with more knowlidge about Canadian nursing how to best look for a job in Ontario.

I have 5 years experience working as a RN in Scandinavia, at specialized in-patient unit for renal patients as well as other acute medical patients. I consider myself as a nurse with quite broad experience with medical patients on the whole, having also some experience with surgical patients. I think my resume is very good what comes to experience, I also have very good recommendations from my previous employers.

In Canada I am going to take my RN exam in a couple of weeks (feb.2008) and after hopefully passing that, looking seriously work in hospital.

I already have tried to find work in hospitals as a temporary RN, but never heard back from any of the hospitals I mailed my resume. At that time I had no workpermit either because I had no job offer...

However now Im getting my workpermit trough permanent residency and that will be no problem anymore.

My darling husband thinks I was not looking for work eager enough and because of that didnt get any response from the hospitals, I however think the reason was that I had not yet my RN exam and the workpermit... and that was the main cause for my attempts being fruitless. I really hope I was right and getting workpermit and registration done will make a change.

If I should do even something more, please let me know! I dont want to be just waiting for job another half a year!

Thanks!

Anna

Hi Anna welcome to the site

I think at the moment concentrate on the CRNE and then start looking at local hospitals. Not sure if the Canadian hospitals have job advertising boards like here in the UK but that could give you an idea on what is available. Have you also contacted HR to see if there are any jobs or even looked on their websites?

The delays for you may have been because you have not passed CRNE and no work permit, may help having permit and find hospitals more responsive

Good luck
