I'm working on my BSN at this time and would love to get into Nursing Informatics. I'm a Clinical Manager of a dialysis clinic. What would be the best way to be able to get a job (at a local hospital) in the N.I. field without experience in that area? Local hospitals are now looking for nurses but they always want experience. How can I use my resume to best display my skills to promote N.I. I'd appreciate any suggestions.:)

I have my BSN and am a grad student in Health Informatics. I have interviewed at several hospitals and even with a vendor. I have expanded my search to a 3 hour radius of my home and nothing. It is really a tough market to break into because of ARRA and meaningful use requirements. Everyone is requiring experience. I won't give up. There has to be a way........

Count me in with you folks.
Attempting to bridge from bedside care to informatics and am finding that everyone wants experience as an informacists or EMR specialist.
Expanding my search as well, and am even willing to relocate for the right opportunity. I am hoping that I can start as a clinical applications specialist at least at first and go from there. It is still difficult to break into the industry without that first bit of experience.
I am doing heavy networking on LinkedIn and write about blog about my experiences as a nurse, nerd, and attempts at becoming a professional nerdy nurse.
Hope we can join the rants of IT nurses soon! So many nurses hate technology and informatics, those of us that love it and are passionate t it should be allowed to shine!
NerdyNurse, thanks for your response. Good luck with your search.:)
