Getting a job

Hey all,

After reading different posts here on AN I see a lot of people posting that they secured jobs as RN's before they have even graduated or taking the NCLEX. Now they state that keeping the job is contingent on graduating and passing the NCLEX and if they don't do that they are out.

My question is, as an Excelsior who has been waiting for the CPNE so I can take the NCLEX how would I go about or approach an employer to possibly get a job prior to me taking these tests as others have. I want to start working in the nursing field and get off the street as a Medic, but the wait of the CPNE is totally out of my control.

Now I have never worked inside, so to speak. I have always been in the field.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Bill

As a med-surg nurse, I'm floated to the ER quite often...go figure. But I've yet to not encounter an EMT who is working as a tech (some as simply techs, and some who are student nurses very close to graduating). As an EMT, your field knowledge and skills are very desired in our ER department. Submit your application for an ER tech position. You won't stay on the market for long...especially with the RN on the horizon..

The problem with working solely as a tech, rather than a medic, is there will probably be a decent pay cut and your skillset will not be utilized. I am a medic in the ER and thankfully we are able to give meds and whatnot. Pay is comparable or more than the truck. That is the only reason I took the spot.

That would be my only concern, is the pay difference. While I would love to be in the hospital setting being able to get acclimated as to the in's and out's of the RN job, my bank account and life style would probably go on strike against me.
