Hello, I am planning to become an LPN in Mississippi- however I am wondering if I wanted to work out of state, would I need to take a test to get a state license to do that or what?
My story is this, I live in MS but I've met a special someone who lives over 2000 miles away. Since it's expensive to get an education out of state, I kind of think it might be good to get my education here but then move up there to work since by the time I'll be finished, he'll still be in college. That way we can date and I can work. Is this a silly, unrealistic idea or could this work? If so, what would I do to make that work so I can practice out of state?
God bless! I appreciate any help and advise!

All LPNs take one standard test regardless of which state they are in. So,when you get your MS LPN license and want to work in another state, unless it is a compact state, you have to apply to that state's board of nursing for a reciprocity of license. the details will be provided on their BON website.hope this helps.
Thanks Emille, it does help. but I'm still a bit confused reading these websites... Could you tell me what goes onto this? By applying, does that mean I need to take tests and such? Or is it just proving I'm educated, etc? If it's typical to have to take a test, will it be difficult as someone in my situation?

Tambourine,
I just finished getting my RN License by endorsement in Georgia.
Here's how it went:
I finished NS in Michigan in May 2010 and took my NCLEX, got my MI RN License and moved to GA. When I got here I had to get re-fingerprinted and background checked, I filled out a very detailed application for my GA license and sent it to the BON. Along with my application, I needed to include:official transcripts (unopened), letter of verification from MI BON (unopened), and a passport photo.
I also read on the application that if you have any criminal history including misdemeanors, dismissals, or even just an arrest, you must include all of that court paperwork as well (I'm assuming unopened).
The application took a while for me to complete, but I followed EVERY single step as it was given (like "do not leave any spaces blank"), and my license was issued about 25 days after the GA BON received it. I didn't have to take any tests, but believe me, the application was like writing a novel...jk.
I'm still looking for a job, but that's another topic altogether.
Hope that helps,

Before Missouri became a Compact State, I was an LPN there. Then, I decided to move to TN. Well, I had to get some paperwork from the BON in MO, then take another fingerprint screen & background check, took some picture for a photo ID, filled out more information on the TN side, paid a few hundred bucks in fees, & in about a month or so got a multi-state license from TN. Huh, so much work...
Oh! But I could work for a temp agency in TN with my MO license, & that's what I did.
