Getting info

Published

Hello, I am trying to get information. I am 22 years old looking to become an rn. I start school in January of this year and I've been really excited. But I feel like I don't really know to much about anything. Like salary or anything like that. I am a cna right now and that's how I made my decision to become an rn. I have a wife and a baby on the way and every decision I make I have to put them to in, and I want to make sure I can support them comfortabley. Anything would help. I live in Pittsburgh area now. If anyone can help that would be fantastic. Thank you.

Specializes in Med-Surg.

I'm not from Pittsburg so I can't answer about salary or job availability in that area, but I would suggest you do some research on local schools. See what type of programs they offer, their cost, and what it would take to be accepted. You can call and set up an appointment with an advisor.

Good luck.

I already have the school I'm going to, I've been accepted and everything. Just trying to figure out if I can provide a good life for my wife and baby, working as a nurse. Like u said I'm a cna now, and I love it. So I know I will love nursing. Just wanna make sure I can provide

For the most part there is a ceiling in wages as a staff nurse, that should pay modest rent and keep the lights on in most areas.

It's going to be getting a job that has a reasonable orientation program and a lot of concentrated hard work for you to be successful and marketable for growing in the field. That may likely require location flexibility and a whole lot of tolerance from your wife during your first few years after graduation.
