Getting in the CRNA program: Military vs regular

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

I am graduating from a BSN program in May. I would like to work in Georgia in a VA hospital, become an army nurse and go for my CRNA. I want to work in the ICU for experience. Can anyone compare the VA hospitals in Decatur and Augusta? How are the ICUs? And are military CRNA programs better, the same or worse than regular CRNA programs?

The two military CRNA programs consistently score at the top of rankings for CRNA schools every year. The military programs teach students how to be full service anesthesia providers without the need for supervision most civilian programs IMO cannot say the same thing. The one thing that I have found about military trained CRNAs versus civilian trained CRNAs is that you can expect a certain level of consistency and proficiency in all military trained CRNAs. Civilian trained CRNAs have skill levels and knowledge levels that are all over the place from abysmal to rocket scientists.

I thought this was true because the military tends to have the same teaching when it comes to that. Plus I would have an unrestricted license. I seen that they were the top two. I think I will do that, thanks!

I am interested with the both the army CRNA with Northeastern U and Ft. Sam Houston and the Military School Uniformed Services University in Maryland. I currently work for the VA and love it. I've been with the VA since I was 16 and never want to leave so as much as possible, I'd like to go back to the VA afterwards. I'm leaning more of the army CRNA in that case.

Anyone have any info about thees 2 military schools?

anything is appreciated thanks!

The VA has a CRNA program. The VA students do their didactic training with the Army at Ft Sam before leaving for their clinical training at one of the VA hospitals.
