Just wondering if anyone had any reading suggestions for a nurse who is returning to the ED after being out of it for 6 years. The particular ED I will be at is low trauma, no peds.
Thanks

Hey, good for you going back into the wild world of ER nursing! I was away from acute care for the same period of time. I checked out Amazon.com, read reviews by other nurses and found some great reference books. I went into the cardiac cath lab as new area of work. It was the toughest thing I ever did but I really love the job now and still use those reference books. The general nursing, as with yourself I'm sure, will just come springing right out of your brain when a situation happens. The rest is just bringing yourself up to speed on any advances in equipment, medications, etc. I hope you find decent reference book(s). Good luck!
Thanks so much for the words of encouragement Harley!

Good luck. I am in a similar situation. I have been out of the ER for about a year and a half. I am currently in my 3rd week of a 13 week ER assignment and doing quite well so far. Give it some time, and you should find allot of your ER knowledge will return quite quickly.
Thanks Gila, I'm really excited about returning to the ER.
