Funding for School

Hi, I am preparing to enter the nursing program in january 2008 and I was wondering did anyone work while in the program; if you did how many hours did you work, and if you didnt how did you survive financially loans etc. Thanks in advance.

When I entered nursing school I had a one year old so I only worked on the weekends. Usually I worked two 10-hr days. Then went to school during the week. I applied for every feasible scholarship (there are tons that go unclaimed every year) and I also had some student loans. We lived pretty simply that first year.

But by the second year I got a job as an LPN (took boards that summer) and got a job that was flexible doing private duty. There was also plenty of time for studying. So, I worked the same but had to study less at home. Plus for us the program had less of a time commitment in the second year.

Good luck in the program. Don't let the money aspect scare you as you can certainly make enough money to pay off those loans soon enough..
