Frustrated with the BON

A month is normal. But remember just like you thousands of nursing majors graduated at same time.. and the system is old and flooded, with snail mail from different programs of letters.. it takes a while for pre sorting, sorting, and filing, THAN updating online database.

I submitted my application for the NJ NCLEX RN, including a letter of completion from my school over 5 weeks ago. I have spoken to the NJ BON several times in the past week, and apparently my entire application is on file except for the letter of completion. No one can give me an answer as to whether the letter has been received or not. They only thing they can say is that it hasn't been "updated" yet and that can take up to 4 weeks. It's been 5. I called back today and now they are saying it can take 6-8 weeks to update it. Why would it take so long for the letter and not for the rest of my application?

How long did it take from the time you submitted your application until you received you ATT?

My question(s) is..how long does it take for them to send fingerprinting info? Do they usually wait to get the letter of completion? And was I suppose to do anything on pearsonvue to register or was sending the application just enough?

you are also applying for NJ..right? Here is what happened to me. I sent my application along with the $200 and it took a month before I received a response from them. Actually, they gave me a form for the fingerprinting with my last name misspelled. I wrote them again. It took again another month to wait for the response. There was a mistake with the address this time. Sigh...anyways... I finally got the correct form after 2.5 months. I guess if they don't commit mistake in writing your name, then you will not have any problem.

May I ask? Are you done with TOEFL and CES? If not, I don't advice you to have your fingerprinting because it last only for 6 months. After that, you need to undergo another criminal hx background check. (If I understand it right) Since I am still waiting for CES result , my form for fingerprinting is sitting here in the house.

Oh, I am foreign trained nurse that is why I need to take TOEFL.

I suggest you register with pearsonvue and submit your payment for the NCLEX. It's 200 dollars up front, but then it's done and you don't have to worry about it. Pearsonvue will email you with your ATT after the board of nursing approves you. Otherwise you may have to wait an additional 24 hours for the pearsonvue registration to verified before you can schedule the exam.

Thank you for the reply! Did I hear you right? You said you don't need fingerprinting to get ATT?! Cause I actually had my graduation on Friday and my school said they would send my letter of completion yesterday (Monday). So I can schedule/register/pay for NCLEX w/o the fingerprinting?

No, you don't need the fingerprints. The fingerprints are for the BON, not for pearsonvue. The BON can issue your ATT without the fingerprints, but I think you need them done to get your actual license number, just not to take the NCLEX.

Yes you can pay to register with Pearson without having the fingerprints first.

Yea I heard NJ takes awhile. I recently graduated from a school in NJ but I applied for licensure in VA and so my license was up within 24 hrs after I took my NCLEX. I am now looking to also apply for license in NJ but everybody makes it seem like its going to take forever. But if you want your NCLEX results I believe NJ offers the 48 hour quick result with Pearson. You do have to pay $8. Hope this helps!
