From frying pan into the Fire

So I was the one that posted that I am thinking about leaving nursing. But dutifully I have been working on other opportunities. I have obtained a job at OP Dialysis Clinic with Davita. It is smaller clinic with only 13 chairs, and two shifts with small 3rd. I work M,W,F 12 shifts off every weekend. I shadowed there. To be honest the nurse seemed just as busy passing med to 12 pt. checking fluids and assessing. She got one break during her 12 hr shift. So I took the job because I think it will at least be more predictable than med-surg with admissions and discharges every day. Sometimes i have an 8 bed section with an LPN on med-surg which can be daunting. I actually have started to have anxiety issues, I pray the whole way into my job sometimes. I figure dialysis has to be worth a shot right? Anyone with any opinions? By the way I am having my manager at dialysis put in writing that I get 90day of orientation. Heard it was a problem. Someone help am I making the right decision? I also have another application in at a local hospital with a union for the OR which is my dream job. (Everyone keep your fingers crossed) If I get that job it would be awesome. Any info on OP dialysis would be helpful. Thanks everyone for your support. :nurse:

I've never worked in dialysis, but the nurses I shadowed loved it. The only thing you can do it try it. You may find that you love it too. Hopefully you will get some input from nurses that are in dialysis. Good luck whatever you decide to do and keep us posted on how it goes.

Been there, done that. It might be a good idea to talk to your doctor about either counselling or medication for your anxiety. Most likely both. Those two elements changed my life and my nursing career.

Working in dialysis can be good or not so good. Much depends on the clinic manager. Do not depend on the current patient census being stable. If more patients are admitted, they will be added to that third shift and you could end up working some very late nights. Also, a word of warning: You might want to do some research into the DaVita corporate culture. It is definitely not for everyone.
