ive just registered to start my nursing course (pre-program) and im now absolutely mortified!!! im 27 and have 3 kids ages 7,6, & 1 and my husband works nights and sleeps during the day. i didnt do very well in high school and im afraid that i wont be able to get the scores i need to stay in school. most of my classes are online and i think that thats a big help for me in not having to juggle school, daycares (i do not get childcare assistance so thats a HUGE financial burden in my household), and picking up my older kids from school. however, i have a hard time retaining information and focusing on the task at hand, im easily distracted and all ive heard is horror storys about other people i know going for theyre nursing staying up all night to meet homework deadlines and how they dont know how im gonna be able to make it with 3 kids and keeping up with a household because they were hardly able to pass with none or 1 child and someone helping out....i want this very very much to make a better future for my family and my kids future, i am alone since my husband is working nights so i dont have to work and can focus on being a full time student but that also leaves me being pretty much a single parent and i keep telling myself i can do it but with all emphases from others on how hard and time consuming this program is has me doubting myself and the ability to handle such a large load without neglecting my children.... i guess im coming here for a little boast of i can do it support, what the course really intails, and also some tips on focusing and retaining info ... can someone please help ease my mind a little

Since you are a stay-at-home mom taking most classes online, this should be a good opportunity for you to study. While your other two children are at school this would be the BEST time to study study study until you memorize it 100%! Maybe your husband can wake up for a few hours to watch your 1 year old during the day while you do your work.
There are a ton of people on here that say how difficult nursing school is and there are plenty of horror stories about how impossible some courses are, about how people fail out of nursing school, about how competitive it is to get into a program. Just remember that EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. Just because plenty of people have had major problems throughout nursing school does not mean you will struggle with it immensely. Don't get me wrong I am not saying you will get through it in a breeze (although who knows maybe you will!), but don't stress yourself out too much thinking about how hard it will be or how much of a nightmare it will be with three young children at home.
I believe you can do it, there are a ton of mothers who even work part or full time while also in nursing school. You will be fine. Don't sweat it!

Good luck! My advice about online classes: if your distracted easily, don't do them online.
Is there another family member that can watch the 1 year old for a few hours??

oops sorry
I am sure you will do just fine. I have 3 kids (7, 4 and 2 year old), husband who works nights and i work days (full time) plus taking night classes. Yes, daycare is expensive and you probably will have to put your youngest in the daycare while you are at school. But it is doable. I was stressing out a lot how we can do that, but everything fall into place. Just make sure that your husband is supportive of you going to school and you have a "secret hideout" to study. My husband just tells the kids that mama is at work when i am in the office studding. Good luck!
