I'm not sure if this is the right section but I am looking for nurses who are currently employed as forensic nurses or know someone who is. I am a BSN prepared nurse in the state of Georgia and I have 1 year of acute care experience. I want to go back to school to get my masters degree in forensic nursing. How did you go about getting into forensic nursing? I want to become a sexual assault nurse examiner. Any advice? Thanks!!!

I just took the class to become a FNE. It was great! Check out the International Association of Forensic Nurses website; they have a list of approved courses. I know in my state they required 18 months of experience to take the class. I am now in the process of completing clinicals, and it seems like different perhaps and organizations are really willing to help with that. I know I met a lot of amazing nurses with incredible backgrounds; one was a certified gunshot wound expert and death investigator.

A friend of mine is an assault nurse- she just did on the job training. Has 5+ years prior nursing experience though.
