Forensic Nursing Programs

Hello, I am currently in a BSN program and plan to go on to my PMHNP licensure after. After this MSN, I'd like to get a certificate in forensic nursing & SANE. I feel these two (psych and forensic nursing) could go very well together for future practice. I also have a paralegal studies degree, so the legal end will help also.

I've seen other posts in relation to forensic nursing programs, but they were old or didn't have a lot of information. So I'm asking here. If someone could please enlighten me on how to obtain a certificate (I can't find anything on Kaplan's site about their certificate program - but people keep mentioning this one). I would like it to be online, or mainly online. If you could point me in the right direction, either to a school itself, a website, or even a thread on here that really explains the programs, that would be very helpful. Thanks!!

Kaplan no longer offers the Forensic Nursing Certificate program.

Here is the contact number where you can speak to them if you wish, but the program was removed about 4 (?) years ago.

Thank you. Are there any other programs online that you know of?

I just looked through there last night and didn't find anything. I will look again though. Maybe I missed something. Thank you.

I just finished my BSN and if you are looking at a forensic nursing program, UCR offers a program. This one is great, rated as one of the top programs. It is with University of Riverside. I am in my second class of nine and they range at about 2 month courses. All online and you receive a certificate after completion. If you have questions, feel free to send me a post. Best of luck

UCR also offer SANE-P and SANE-A certificates as an elective. The workload is very manageable, especially compared to the BSN program I just finished. You can probably take two courses at a time if you wanted. You do have to find your own preceptorship on a few courses, but I have already had multiple opportunities by just talking to certain nurses in the field.

Hello,

I have been working today up-dating information and other edits for the Article, How Do I Become a Forensic Nurse/Role of the Forensic Nurse , and added that program as well as others.

Good luck with the remainder of your program.
