FNP question

Hey guys!

I'm in the process of writing my statement of purpose for my FNP application and after speaking to a friend of mine, I have a question. My end goal is to work as an NP in a Cardiology(CHF) clinic.

My friend says that would definitely be more geared towards ACNP, or agpcnp and that FNP is the wrong way to go if that is my end goal. Anyone have any insight? I have been struggling with which specialty to apply to. The program I am applying to has ACNP, AGPCNP, and FNP tracks. I do enjoy working in the hospital, but I think 10 or so years down the road it might be a different story. Also, my background is in Stepdown and Cardiothoracic surgery floors. No ICU background. Thanks!

I have friends who are FNP's who work in clinic and inpatient Cardiology practices.

Why do you need critical care certification to run a cards clinic dealing with chronic, stable problems? Let's be real. If they're unstable they're getting pawned off to the ER.

The vast majority of patients seen in physician offices, regardless of specialty, are "chronic". Acute areas include walk-in clinics...which also sees chronic patients, and hospitals. I see no reason to consider an acute tract unless you anticipate working in an acute setting. Which ever road you pick...good luck!
