Hello everyone! I'm applying to FIU's accelerated BSN program next month and wanted to start a thread for any other interested applications, so that we can share information and keep each other informed. Anyone else hoping to apply?
STnurse14 18 Posts Jun 28, 2017 Hey! I plan on turning in my application on Friday. Did you already apply?
Gram Stain 51 Posts Jun 28, 2017 Not yet! I just finished my last prerequisite a couple weeks ago and am completing my last few volunteer hours. Next week I'll hopefully be dropping off my app! I'm curious about how many applicants there will be for this year, seeing as in previous years they had about 120~ish for the 30 slots.
STnurse14 18 Posts Jul 4, 2017 When I turned mine in I had to sign a sheet, and there appeared to not be too many people who already handed it in. It is such a pretty campus, I am so excited to find out! Also, for your work, volunteering, and patient experience you need reference letters. Not sure if I was the only one who wasn't aware until the last minute. I managed to get all of mine in!
yasyfay101 12 Posts Jul 18, 2017 Thanks for starting this thread. I did not include volunteer hours/references, hope that doesn't hurt my chances. Also, no one made me sign anything when I turned in my application. I cannot believe it's just the 3 of us in this thread lol! Really hope we all get in : )
Gram Stain 51 Posts Jul 18, 2017 I hope so, too! They say volunteer hours are a big help, but GPA and TEAS scores also carry a lot of weight. Ditto on not having to sign anything.

Aug 2, 2017 HiI wanna apply but fall 2018, I still have a few classes pending like Microbiology and Statistic; although, I'm reviewing my notes from A&P 1 and 2... planning to take the ATI TEAS VI January -2018. did you take it?would you mind sharing info of Volunteering? where did you do your volunteer work? do you have any suggestion where I can go? I work full time so it makes it harder for me
Gram Stain 51 Posts Aug 2, 2017 I took the TEAS, yes, and found it was a very straight-forward test. If you buy one of the review books like Mometrix (about $30 on Amazon) and read it front to back, you should do just fine. I scored a 91% cumulative. The science portion is mostly anatomy, math is basic algebra and proportions, reading is basically understanding passages, and grammar is spelling, subject-verb agreement and all that good stuff. As for volunteer experience, most hospitals in South Florida will have programs where you can apply for a position. I spent my hours at Mount Sinai's emergency room in Miami Beach; it was great experience, really fun and will also help your application stand out. They're very flexible with the hours you can volunteer, so weekends would be an option for you. Other places I've heard are much more strict with their volunteers' schedules.

I called to Accelerated Nursing Program division the guy told that if I score 85 I should be fine. He also said that classes are mostly evening time, very convenient for those students who work. I personally will stop working or I might work part-time during the weekends.
