Fisrt Job?

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hi all. i am newly licensed in NC and am having a hard time finding work. I am rather bummed since all I have heard all through school is how in demand nurses are. ~sigh~ It seems everyone is requiring at least one years experience. How does one get that year!!!!???

Any ideas or hints on the job search would be well appreciated. I can not even seem to locate any LTC facilities looking for LPN. Perhaps I am not looking in the right places, or am approaching it all wrong. Any hints , tips advice, anything?? any do's and don'ts?

As a new grad LPN with no experience, you'll need to do plenty of walk-ins. You'll need to walk into facilities during the daytime hours when a DON, nurse manager, staff developer, or HR person is likely to be present. Be sure to look cleanly and presentable. Always have a resume in hand. Explain to someone in charge that you are a newly licensed LPN who is interested in working for their facility. Also, you must have a reason as to WHY you want to work for their workplace.

Also, many of the places that state that 1 year of experience is necessary, will often hire new grads if their staffing needs are dire. My current workplace requires that nurses have that 1 year of experience, but they cannot realistically follow their own rule since their employee turnover rate is so high. I only had 1 month of experience when they hired me.

Good luck, and I hope you find something soon!
