Hi folks, I want to travel to Alaska this summer but have never had a travel assignment before. I got my Alaska license in preparation to traveling there and would like anchorage area. Question...Can I travel to Alaska as a first time traveler? Some hospitals don't take first time travelers I guess. Thanks all!!

It should be doable, but I don't really know the ground situation - which also may depend on your specialty and experience. Talk to a few agencies for more information. You may experience some culture shock with the patient population, being ready for that may be important for a successful first assignment. If the hospitals there are really reluctant to take a first time traveler, take a traveler friendly assignment anywhere just to have a successful first assignment and keep AK on your bucket list for the near future. It is great to have a must do on your list, but I can tell you from personal experience every assignment offers something new in culture, clinical experience, and local things to do and see. I don't regret a single assignment in more than 20 years of travel.
