First Day Today

Today was the first day of classes for the LPN program. I walked into the classroom to find that we had assigned seats. Luckily, I was put in a spot that I probably would have picked myself given the chance. Soon thereafter the senior class came in and talked to us about the program. We were all paired up with a senior that we can go to if we need to. They fixed us breakfast and gave us each a present; (notecards, pens, highlighters, etc). I thought this was a really thoughtful thing for them to do. It was reassurring to here them tell us that although the class is going to be hard that it is do-able.

After our breakfast we came back to class and was given our school policies and procedures. We looked over those while we took turns having picture IDs made.

The rest of the day we mostly went over the class syllabis and what to expect and when. Basically we will be covering one -four chapters a night and getting a lecture on them the next day, and a test the next. So, a test pretty much every single day. We also have three quizes this session, a current affairs project (speech in front of class) and our final.

Right after lunch we were informed that we wont be having class tomorrow due to the hurricane that is heading towards FL:(. So our instructor gave us the outline for the first two chapters so that we can get started on those; as well as some handouts on terminology prefixes, suffixes, root words and abbreviations that we have to memorize.

All in all it was a good first day. The instructors were friendly, seniors funny and helpful, and other classmates friendly as well. I was glad to see I wasn't the only "older" student in the class, and we had a few males as well.

That's about it; I'm off to study.
