First attempt NCLEX and FAILED...

Published

Im feeling really depressed right now. Just recently took my NCLEX and got all 265 and FAILED. I am the first one that I know of out of my class to fail. Everyone told me how it was going to be a piece of cake and how they only had 75n questions or sat for two hours. I went into the testing thinking that if everyone else passed then the test cant be that hard!!!! YEAH RIGHT... Question one my mind went blank. As the questions went by I kept wondering when the computer was going to cut off and say that I was done...well once I got to question 200 I know that i was going for the whole 265. Here was the problem..I went about studying for this the wrong way...I used NCLEX 4000 and my Saunders book to help with practice questions and the questions on the test were nothing like any of the ones I was practicing for a month. I cried all day today and now in focus and ready to get back to studying the right way. Could someone help my figure out what the right was is????

I'm sorry that you didn't pass your test, but good for you for getting back on the horse!

Not all study materials work for everyone. I suggest finding a new review book, such as Kaplan and LaCharity and reviewing content more than practicing questions. If you get a book with practice questions, make sure they include rationales, and read them all- even the ones you get right.

Hi Smilee1116,

When I took my NCLEX I used a Kaplan book. It reviewed the categories that were on the exam and had test taking strategies that I found really helpful. It also has comprehensive exams with rationales for each question. Please do not give up and keep going. Next time you take the NCLEX, do something you love the day before to help you relieve anxiety and stress. Hope this helps. Good luck!!!

You need to learn the content behind the questions first, so start there. Also, plan in more time and use it wisely. Study as if you had never tested before, so that you don't leave anything out. Don't give up.

Yep, you studied but not the right way. This time try something different, use different NCLEX materials the ones suggested are good. Just make sure you are able to understand and retain the material presented.

Thanks for all the advice....Im really feeling a whole lot better today!!!
