I wonder why you need to be fingerprinted anew for each job in the same city state? I mean, it's not like your fingerprints change over time or do they, (other than cuts/scars)? Couldn't they just use the set they have on file from your first job when leaving one job for another in the same state? I was fingerprinted via the required background check for my first caregiving position in the latter part of 2011 and then again about five or six months ago for a new caregiving job in the same city and tomorrow I go do it again for my new job that I start on August 2nd. It's just annoying how you have to have it done for each new job even if you just did it not too long ago so your prints are already in the system. A new background check I can understand because things can happen between, but, not fingerprinting! Oh, well. Anyone else feel this way? Lol!

Because if federal privacy laws employers cannot share background data. Background without fingerprinting is not as accurate as BG with.
In order to work in schools I had to be fingerprinted for the state dept of education because the state dept. of community affairs/board of nursing could not share data. In addition to my paid work I've been fingerprinted for various volunteer agencies because I work with children. My cousin the state trooper jokes that I've been fingerprinted more than some criminals.

I suppose so you can't claim to be somebody else? If your fingerprints do not match up to what they already have for your name, they will know if someone is using your credentials/identity to secure a job. It's to protect the clients.

Yep, it's because of privacy laws.
Hospital A cannot share your background checks and fingerprints with Hospital B.
You will need to get prints for each new employer.
Also, employers can't just "look up" any prints with the state without you getting printed again to submit a new set.
For one, if you have no criminal record, then your prints are not kept on file.
That's what they tell us, anyway...
When your prints are submitted, the BOI and FBI are looking for a match to prints on file.
They are only going to find a match if you have a criminal record.
Even if you have been printed 200 times, if you have no criminal record, then they will not have your prints on file... thus, they can't just take your info and look up your prints.
In short, privacy laws and system by which the BOI and/or the FBI uses, means that you will continue to get your prints done every time you get a new job.

OK! That all makes sense Lol! Thanks! I didn't know about the prints not being kept on file if no criminal background. Now, I understand it better.
