Hello all,
Im a little depressed today. I was just informed that the Lvn Program Im about to attend in fall 2012 might not be financed fully. The advisor informed me that due to the new law that came into effect 07/2011, I might not qualify for 100% aid. I was shocked! especially since I was asking for a stafford loan. I was informed that since I stated that I had a bachelors degree( even though it was from another country) I do not qualify for money, or I do if I win the appeal. She stated that if I decided to go for a masters or bachelors in nursing, I would not have any issues. I informed her that since my bachelors was in Business Administration, I wanted to take baby steps at the most cost effective way, she actually went ahead to pull up schools that offered Bsn degrees. She stated that If I wanted to go ahead with the LVN program, I would have to provide documentation as to why I should get funds for a degree that is lower than my first degree (pay cut) So thats my dilemma, I have to come up with the cost of the pre reqs, thank God there are only three, but Im scared that the 42 credits that financial aid is supposed to fund might be a problem since when the time comes for me to start the program, Ill have to come up with the funds first and then if the appeals committee approve my petition thay might decide to reimburse me. Has this happened to anyone out there. By the way Im attending Austin community college, Texas. Please advise me on what I should do. I registered for my classes for january, and its too late to start looking for classes in other schools for the spring semester. I thought I was so close to my dream until today.

Can you CLEP out of the prereq's? Since you have a bachelor's already, I don't think that it will be as many classes to go from that degree to a BSN. I do wonder, though, why you'd want to do the LPN instead of the BSN. Have them do a transcript eval.
