You have to fill out a FAFSA. I am not sure how the separation affects you....you may have to declare his income. The site will give you that answer. Once your FAFSA has been completed, the government will decide how much Pell Grant you will get and what your EFC (expected family contribution) towards your tution will be. That info is then used to determine eligibility for other grants (state level) and potential scholarships. When those are exhausted, you will qualify for Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford Loans (6.8% interest). Those loans are only repaid after graduation.

Contact the FA office of the school you wish to attend. They can give you the best information.

Go talk with your financial aid office before you fill out anything. My first semester I had to write a letter becuase I had worked full time the year before, I had to explain that I no longer had that income and I got my full grants and loan. You may have to legally file for seperation, I don't know. Go talk with the aid people they can guide you in the right direction, that is what they are there for. Good Luck!!!!!

I have a similar issue as sikes....

I earned good money last year AND got married. Our joint income was $119K and that didn't include his BAH and BAS (which the government includes). I lost my job a little less than 3 weeks ago.... the $1100/mo unemployment is less than I earned net in 1 week. I have 4 in college besides me. Hope they do take this into consideration!

talk to the financial aid office at your school! they are usually very helpful! :)
