Hello Everyone!

I am about to start the nursing program in August and I am all stress about the cost and how I will manage. Any advice on how to make some extra cash while in school? Did you work a part time job? How hard was it to manage it?

I don't know but I am super excited that I got accepted but all the little details are starting to overwhelm me...

Any advice will be appreciated!

I am going thru the same process right now, Just starting my pre-reqs ... Looks like I will have Micro & Algebra on Mon & Wed ,internet -intro to soci., Fri - ApI

Leaves me All Day Tues & Thurs& Sat to Work- of course this is subject to change ... so I have Plan A,B,C & D and working on E

I am going on my final semester for my RN and I have been working 20hr/wk at a hospital and on top of that took out student loans. My paychecks are tiny so I wouldn't have been able to make it through without the loans.

Good luck! :)

My advice is if you can, wait on starting a job until you see what your coursework is going to be like.

Make SURE your employer knows that school is your #1 priority.

You will find that if you are already in a nursing program, that most hospitals want to see you succeed. I did an externship while in school and a couple of times school got overwhelming and my manager was totally ok with me calling out...b/c she told us in advance, that it was ok to do this...it was not staffing.

However, I worked my rear off when I was there, so they knew I wasn't calling out to just be lazy for the day.

I understand everyone has different financial circumstances...so if having a job is not an option, just be very, very careful with your money...it is very hard to see friends go shopping, out to eat, taking trips, etc...but your day will come, if you are patient.
