Finally returning back to school

After seven years since taking my last college course I have decided that it is time to return back to school. For the past six years I have been working as a CNA, and really have enjoyed the job, but the reality is that in this position I will never be able to afford to retire and the work really takes a toll on the body over time. So it is back to school so that I can become a registered nurse and continue to progress in a career that I love. After talking with an advisor at the community college that I have attended in the past I found out that I am a couple of semesters away from being able to apply for the nursing program with a handful of prereq's left to complete. I will be able to apply for their program next spring and should be able to start the nursing program fall of 2015!

So it is Anatomy this summer along with getting in all the community service hours that I can fit in to increase the points that I can get when I apply along with continuing to work full time at my job. Definitely a busy summer ahead, but doable although I have a feeling that my family and boyfriend will start to question if I am still around by the end of it.

hi! Joining the club over here! I'm going back to school this fall to start a traditional BSN program after taking a leave from college for the past two years. I've been working at an answering service for medical offices/facilities and its been a real push to get me into the career at a higher level. I also am going to be working on my pre-reqs this year before applying to the program next november 2015! glad to see others doing things similar to myself.

Kudo's to everyone that has decided to start the nursing program. If nursing is ur dream then by all means pursue it. Good luck to you all! :-)

I just started after 10 years of being out of school! Its been wonderful getting back into it. I feel so much more ready and disciplined and I am kinda glad I waited. I will be applying for the nurse program next summer and hopefully get accepted and it will start Spring of 16! I can't wait! I had my PCT certification, which I am working on reinstating it at the moment so I can go back to work.

What types of community service are you doing?

I am going to be working with my local chapter of the Red Cross, along with other community service opportunities that are available in my area such as helping with disabled adults at their bowling event, helping with one of the local playground areas with maintinance and other opportunities that I find to get involved with. Also trying to get in with the local hospital, but that probably will not happen until this fall.

Good day, Barb-H:

You can do it. I went back to school after 33 years of being out... it's very doable.

Thank you.

38 here and started school last fall. I have really enjoyed it and am finding I do so much better now. I don't know if it is maturity or wisdom but it's something.
