So, since I graduated last year I have been working on a med surg floor. The problem is, however, that I absolutely hate it. I don't feel like med surg is a good fit for me at all. I find myself dreading the days I'm scheduled to work and I just feel so unhappy when I am there. I've always dreamed of working in the ER, and have been trying to get a position there. Unfortunately, our ER isn't hiring, hasn't been hiring for over three months now and doesn't know when they will hire again. And I just found out today that the only other hospital in this area that is hiring rejected my application after two interviews. I feel like I am just stuck. I really don't know what to do. Any advice?

Have you been working at your current place of employment for at least one year?
If not, managers at the other hospital system in town might be leery about hiring you because they think you are at increased risk of job-hopping. When recruiting and hiring talent, managers and HR directors want a return on investment. Any indications of job-hopping will be an automatic red flag.
If you have been with your current employer for at least one year, would you be willing to relocate to work in the ER?

You're a year in, and it may just take more time. Use this time now and this job now, to perfect your skills for the next big opportunity, which WILL come your way. Stay positive and do some self reflection. What are some things you could work on? Challenge yourself. I am no where near my goal which is similar to yours (I need more schooling, more experience). But I am where I am now. I am happy but I know I am going to work my way to something even better.
And...it could be worse. Go read that post about that guy who can't get the taste of poop out of his mouth. Poor guy!
I've been here for eight months; so maybe that's why. The interview went so well so I really couldn't figure out why I got rejected. As for relocation, there's really no way for me to relocate. All of mine and my partner's family are here so it would be extremely difficult to pack up and leave.
Whatdayisit thank you so much for the positive words. I'm trying to stay positive but sometimes it just feels like I'm never going to get there.
