Feeling discouraged in LVN-RN program

Updated:   Published

I am so happy I have been accepted to the LVN to RN program.  I came in with very limited experience. I've had my LVN license for years, but I've used it mainly for case management and home health visits, which are limited to wound care. I don't have any major bedside skills (catheter, g-tube, suctioning, etc...).  I feel the pressure of "knowing everything" since I am supposed to have experience.  The other LVN's with me in the bridge program have more experience hands on and I can't relate to them.  My school did not require experience when applying, but gives you points if you do.  I was an alternate, so obviously I was not the first pick.

Did any of you in the bridge get accepted with limited experience or none?

Thanks!!

The school chose YOU! You will have a skills lab to master newer skills, and unlike others, you will not have to unlearn bad habits.

A word to the wise...sometimes students who have worked in an LPN role or unit secretary come in boasting their hospital CANNOT survive with out them. Upon graduation they calmly say "I want new experiences and to move on and  the unit that could not function without them (in their mind) chooses someone else for that RN ER job.   Everyone wants to be perceived as an important part of patient experiences. Sometimes, the one that is boasting, is not that valuable.

Don't believe everything you hear from fellow students....

Thank you for your inspiring words ?

I applied with little experience, as a fresh LPN out of school. All the school required was that I was actively working as an LPN. Don't feel bad, everyone's walks of life are different.
