i've been off orientation for a little while now and im constantly feeling anxious and worrying at work and after work. im always wondering if i remembered to do everything on my shift but i know there are always things i forgot to do. i hope things get better as i become a better nurse but im ALWAYS worried about getting in trouble or fired for one thing or another. i've never done anything to harm a pt and thats obviously my biggest concern. but is it normal to feel on edge all the time?

Yes! Very normal! There are still nurses who have been doing this for years who say they still feel the same as you. It seems to be the "norm" especially with floor nursing. I worked for a year on the floor in Ortho/Neuro and I left every morning with a pit in my stomach thinking I forgot something or did something wrong. I always waited on my phone to ring after I got home with my supervisor on the other end asking me to come in. Thank God that never happened.

I guess for each person it's different as to how long it takes to be able to walk off the floor and not worry yourself to death.

Hang in there! It has to get better!

i LOVE that! i woke up this morning worried i would have a voicemail from my job asking me to come in so they could speak with me or something. but it hasnt happened thank god! im glad its not just me. i hope i never make a grave mistake but all i can do is try my best, right?

That's all we can ever do is try our best. When we feel that our best isn't good enough for where we work then it's time to move on!

I eventually came off floor nursing. I was making myself sick with the stress. So, I decided to never work floor nursing again. That is just what was good for me. So, I have done school nursing which I love love love! And now I'm getting ready to go into Correctional nursing. We moved to FL.....otherwise I would still be doing school nursing.

I wish you the very best!
