extern to RN transition

Ok I am not a Grad yet but thought you all could help guide me. I am still in school working as an Extern ( they call it an intern here but you know what I mean!!) My question is when should I start asking my manager about a new grad position?? They told me they wanted a one year commitment from me when I first started but I never signed anything it was all verbal. I will not graduate until May 2007 BUT I wanted to see when I should give them the heads up that "Hey yeah remember me, I will be graduating soon" so that I will actually have a position when I graduate?? Thanks!

yes I like the floor but didnt know when to ask about a grad position like is Jan too early?? Would mid March be better?? I have NO idea!!

Where I work, there was a lot of competetion for the 4 new grad spots available to the December Grads (i graduated last december). I earned my spot by starting EARLY with talking with my nurse manager. At least 6 months before, I told her that I was interested in a spot and asked if she knew of anything I needed to do to improve or what she suggested that I do to be learning more. This let her know I was interested and made me appear to her as someone who was interested in learning and improving. I think that really helped! I also continued to be open and honest with her and told her right out that the ER was my first choice of where I wanted to work when I graduated.
