Experience in CLEP testing?

Hello Nursing Friends

I am considering a second career in nursing. I already have previous degrees from another state. Unfortunately - several of the pre-requisites I need are different than those required for my degrees (i.e. US history vs World History, government, sociology, etc).

I have a busy job now and taking time and brain power to complete these non-critical courses is not fun. I am happy and willing to take AP and Microbiology but I don't see US History as a critical need!

Has anyone used the CLEP test to test out of some of these basic courses? I am thinking especially of Sociology, US History, etc. This seems like a way to save time and money. These courses are not hard but the busy work doesn't seem to be a valuable use of time.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

I took some Clep tests and purchased preparation books on Amazon. You have to read the books and study. Practice tests are useful. It was a quick and easy way to get credit. Some of the reading was fun. Classics are better reading than a nursing text. I have not had any problem with the credits being accepted by Excelsior where I got my BSN. Best wishes on your educational pursuits.
