Can someone give me an example of evidence based nursing in the emergency department. I dont mean to sound dumb, but I am having a hard time understanding this concept.

Okay... Evidenced based practice is a concept that just means that " new and improved" idea in nursing...
Remember when you were a kid and you got a nose bleed? The standard remedy was : to pinch the nose, tip the head back, and wait for it to stop... meanwhile,9 times out of 10, the nosebleeder would puke.... wellll...based on that "evidence" we realized that tipping the head back causes blood to pour down the throat, into the stomach and nauseates the nosebleeder making them vomit...Sooooo now we advise pinching nose lightly & leaning forward with head down between knees....
There's your example....
Have a good day!!!!

Victims of heart attacks were routinely rested for weeks, not given much in way of treatment and then they started doing research on thrombolytics. Now thrombolysis is routine, but it didn't used to be. It took years of trials and a meta-anlysis before they realised how beneficial thrombolysis was and when they did, they changed practice.
Think about any nursing practice in the ER that is now different - warming of children following being under water or ice for long periods etc.
