I just can't seem to find my cup of tea in nursing. I have only been a RN for 4 years (an LPN for 1 year)
I have been a DON, worked med/surg/ortho... and now I am in corrections. Its just not exciting enough for me. Corrections is good money but I am SO bored! I would truly love to go back to school but I dont know that I can right now. I have 4 children between the ages of 17 and 1 My oldest has just started driving and my youngest just started walking about a month ago...
I do like med/surg but dont want to work overnights and many hospitals require that I work rotating nights. My husbands job wont allow it because he gets up early and is at work by 4am.
There are a few things that I am interested in...
-- Research
-- Infection Control
-- Trauma ( don't know that I am cut out for it though) It seems exciting!
I dont want to jump around because I dont want the rep of a job jumper. I would like to find something that I LOVE and stay. I just get SO bored doing the same thing all the time. I need some excitement!!
Any advice??

Have you looked into online programs for school? I'm working on my BSN now through a local college that has an online program and I love it.
Can you find a prn job at a hospital that would let you float to different areas to see what you like? Our hospital's minimum requirement for prn is one shift a month; this lets you keep your full time job, but would give you a chance to experience different areas.
Have you ever thought about doing ER? You'll get to work with traumas and its never boring!
Thanks for you advice!
I just applied online at a hospital per diem so we'll see. I never thought about floating through the hospital... thats a great idea!
