Hello,

I need to write an essay to get into nursing program. The topic of the essay is :Explain how you will commit to the demands and responsibilities of a nursing program?

I stuck and not sure what should I write.I would be greatful for any idea!

Hi there!

Well, the success of writing any essay is to clearly understand the prompt. Your prompt states: Explain how you will commit to the demands and responsibilities of the nursing program? Make sure you know EXACTLY what you are being asked. At this point I have no idea, though, what your other requirements are for writing this essay: length, for example. I would assume, 2-3 paragraphs at the least. First, identify key words in the statement:

1. Explain

2. Demands

3. Responsibilities

Sometimes I have seen students confuse the words explain and describe. They may seem similar but they are not. In this context, EXPLAIN calls for higher-order thinking - application and evaluation (based on Bloom's taxonomy). Then, similarly, demands and responsibilities maybe synonymous, but they are different. Demands entail all the course work, the time management, the punctuality, and the stress that comes with the nursing; and the responsibilities attribute to how well you will meet those specific demands.

Now, that you clearly understand what you are being asked, and identified the key words/ideas, you are ready to write!

Some tips:

1. Remember, it is a writing process, so take some time to really polish it. Have a few drafts, revise and edit as needed. When you finally publish it, have a few people read it and give you a feedback.

2. When you explain, make sure to use your life experiences to reference to and give specific examples. When you write about the demands, explain, using your examples, how you will manage your time in school (time management), how you will cope with the stress (stress management). Make it personal!

3. Finally, have fun during the process! I heard that writing is like cooking: if you do not put much love into it, it will be very blend.

I hope it helps!

This is fabulous advice! Op you really lucked out.

Thank you so much!

Now it's much more clear

I used tips from essmart.org when I wrote my essay.

Emphasis the effort you will put into homework and practice activities. The responsibility you feel towards doing your best so that upon completion of the program you'll be able to offer your employer and their patients the best in care that's possible. Also fit in that you realize that this program will set you on the path to excellence in nursing, but that only your commitment to continuing education, even after graduation, that will permit you to stay up to date. That this is not a 2 or 4 year commitment but a life-time commitment.

Can anyone look at my essay and tell me if its good or needs work?

When I was 12 years old I developed a cataract in one of my eyes and it caused my eye to turn blueish gray. I was teased and bullied at school because of this. One day after lunch the school nurse noticed me crying in the hallway and asked "What's the matter sweetie?" I told her that kids were teasing me because of my eye and calling me names so she took me to her office. She sat me near her desk and told me that I was beautiful and that my eye did not define who I was or who I would turn out to be. From that day forward she checked in on me everyday and allowed me to eat my lunch with her in her office. She let me play with her stethoscope and showed me how to use a thermometer. I admired her and enjoyed being with her everyday. She became a role model to me during a hard time in my life and she encouraged me everyday to hold my head high. I had cataract surgery and missed a ton of school for different procedures and she would always send me get well cards and put cute little nursing stickers inside them. I will never forget the impact she had on my life. At 12 years old I knew that I wanted to be a nurse because I developed a true passion for caring for others just as much as Nurse Beth cared for me. I want to be for others what she was for me during a rough patch in my life.

My ultimate goal is to earn my BSN. I desire to one day work as a Labor & Delivery Nurse or in the Postpartum unit in a Birth Center. My passion and drive to improve the lives of others will help me in becoming a great nurse.
