Erwin LPN program

Hi Everyone,

I'm due to start the LPN program at Erwin in Tampa. Does

anyone know if you have to take the NET test as part of the class?:)

I don't think so but you should check with the guidance counselor. Are you starting in the Aug 2009 class and how long since you applied to your class date? How was the TABE test and did you have a low # in the lottery?

Good luck. They have a good LPn program

I'm starting in the May evening program. I was on the list for over a year, but

that's because the evening program only has 1 class every 14 months. I would

have gotten in sooner if I opted for the day program. When I register I'll check

with them about the NET, I have been trying to get a headstart on med terms and A&P. I think

from everything I've read on the boards here, its going to be a fast and furious class.:)

Have you taken the Erwin program ?

I really don't think that they take the NET but you should check. Here is the phone # for the guidance counselor for the LPN program at Erwin Tech 813-231-1830 Bari LaBarbara- the main # is 813-231-1815.

I am currently finishing the last of my prereqs at HCC but I know some folks who will be taking the TABE next week to see if they can get in the program.

From what I saw of their syllabus posted on their site, www.erwin.edu, they do 50hrs of AP and 25hrs of Nutrition after Core and the CNA components so it is wise of you to review AP.

I know that next to Galen, their passing rates are decent and they have a good job placement history.

Regarding the evening program, I thought it started August 2010 as like you said, it is 14mths?

When you took the TABE (if you had to), how was it?

Good luck. It's good to see someone from Tampa here.

The tabe test was not bad at all except for the math; I did horribly but I had been

out of school for a long time and forgotten everything. They have people there to

help you if you don't pass the level needed, so it took me a couple of weeks and I passed.

On line it shows the next class is August 2010 - because they have already advised the

students that applied last year as to who got in the May class this year. I hope this makes

sense, the bottom line is Erwin will never run out of students for this LPN program; I

have heard its a really good program. Are you going straight into the RN program when you

finish up your pre-reqs? And yes it is nice to talk to someone from Tampa, I don't think there

are that many of us on this board. I'm sure we'll see each other on here from time to time.

Good luck to you:)

Yes, I am going straight into HCC's evening/weekend program if I am accepted. I also applied to Erwin as a backup. I'l glad to hear that they offered tutoring for the Tabe. I downloaded some practice Tabe booklets for my friends so hopefully they will do well.

yes, there aren't many tamapanites on this board but that is ok. Have you done any science courses before? You must be very excited.

I am very excited, and extremely nervous; I'll be working and going to school.

But I figure its now or never, I've wanted to do this for a long time.

Good luck to you, if I had started 10 years ago, I would take the path

your taking. I didn't know HCC had an evening/weekend program, that's really

great for people that have to work. I have had no science classes, but I

did take a phlebotomy class and got my CNA license so I hope some of that

will help me in the class. Let's keep each other posted on our progress!

NewGoalRN you should be exempt from the TABE test with an MBA and I with a BA, though I could be mistaken.

You are correct,we are exempt.

My daughter and her friend will be taking the TABE tomorrow as the last day to apply is Friday. I turned in an app late last year just in case things don't work out for me at HCC but I think that I should be ok.

I am trying to get my daughter to take the medical terminology class at HCC this summer. I will be taking that 3cr course as i have heard that it helps immensely. I will also be taking either Lifespan Development Psych or Chemistry.

FYI, my daughter passed the Tabe. Math 12.9, Readinn 12.9 and Language 12.1. unfortunately, her friend didn't pass. Now all she has to do is to wait to attend the May orientation. The advisor told us that there will be 1 more prerequisite but she wouldn't say until Orientation. I have no idea what it is. I suggested that she take the medical terminology class at HCC this summer.

Wouldn't AP1 give her enough medical terminology (and fulfill a prereq for an RN program)? It seems this medical term. class I keep hearing about is just a money grab for HCC.

Well, she is presently attending HCC, however, she is trying to get into the LPN class at Erwin tech. She passed the TABe this month and now she has to wait until orientation in May to get the LPN packets, turn them in by June 10 and then wait to see what number she gets for the Lotto.

I just went to www.erwin.edu site and now I see that they want you to take the TEAS test as well. That never use to be a requirement and now, I am wondering if this is the prereq that the guidance counselor said would not be announced until orientation.

Regarding the med term class, I will also be taking this class. I see it as a benefit, when one is involved in the nursing classes, there will be many diagnoses etc terms that we may not be able to understand but if we understand the root word or prefix or suffix, it will help.

I am done with my prereqs so all i have is time. Regarding the LPN program, I was told by several students, that they give you lists of terms that you have to memorized and then they test you on them in LPN school. This way, she will be exposed to them.

AP1 does not expose you to all the terms. Perhaps with AP2, you have more terms/words in your orificenal but still not close to what you will learn in med term class. just my 2Cs.
