Erlanger anyone?

I have an interview scheduled for Nov 10th at Erlanger. Anyone else have one? Anyone know what to expect from the interview process, question types? I have heard various things and one was that it was with a panel and not an invididual. A coworker and I both have the same day, time for our interviews too....Thought that was odd. Anyone have any experience with Erlanger?

I did not interview at UT chattanooga/Erlanger but i did interview at UT knoxville, and it was a panel interview, with 5 interviewers, alot of personality type questions, not too many (or any) technical nursing questions. But this was in knoxville, just thought it might help

I interviewed at Erlanger in 05' got waitlisted but got in at Arkansas State. anyway, to help answer your question: yes they interview panel style. They schedule several people at the same time, the order of your interview is simply set by the order that they get the mailed back/phone confirmation from you and the others who were offered interviews. one person goes in at a time and the other interviewees wait in a room with students who will talk to you, answer questions and attempt to keep you calm. You will sit at the end of a big long rectangle table at which will be seated(in various spots) CRNA faculty, dept. head, MDA etc. The interview will probably last 10-15 minutes roughly. They'll ask you basic things: were are you from, where did you work, they each will also have your file on hand mind you, so stay consistent with anything you've already told the program. Then they will ask you some clinical questions specific to they type of unit you work in, like some swan questions if you work with those. They will probably also ask you to tell them about a difficult patient experience that you had and what occured, so think of this beforehand, it caught me off guard and I felt like a deer in the headlight. I didn't want to say anything that made me look incompetent so I fumbled through the question. My advice is to come up with a good scenario to talk about beforehand and practice saying it. Hey, I have an interview tommorrow too at 1300 (at erlanger), and I am really sick to my stomach about it. I hope I don't freeze up or have a panic attack. I have been told that I am the first interview of that session (which has 12 total), which does not help ease my nerves. It is a panel type, did you not get the e-mail? The director, Linda Hill seems really nice and laid back. I have been studying everything, and trying to stay calm. I have asked a few SRNAs about interviews, however they have had different directors over the last few years, and the interview may be different.

Here are the tips I have received:

1) know your PA catheters

2) assess , reassess and reassess

3) oxyhemoglobin dissocciation curve

4) if you could monitor only one aspect of your patient what would it be?

Hey what time is your interview... any little scrap of advice would be greatly appreciated.

Dang girl. You responded to this while I was on my way to Chattanooga. I was there with you!!! Since you said you went first, I remember who you are. I was in the same boat. So nervous the night before I couldnt even eat. After it was over, I went to the nearest alcoholic beverage stand! :rotfl:

I also interviewed at UAB today. Talk about night and day differences. Wow.

So was your interview as horrible as mine was? I got grilled on clinical questions, which I am pretty sure I nailed. The other interview questions were pretty difficult considering I was so nervous. What is worse is I was the first friggin' person. I didn't even get to talk to the senior students. I feel you on the alcoholic beverage, I enjoyed a beer or two afterwards. :cheers:

Was UAB a lot more laid back? I am thinking about applying next year there if I don't get in this year to UTC. I only applied to UTC cuz I live/work in Chattanooga, and it works for me this year.

Sent you a PM. Interviewed at UAB today. Didn't need a beer after it was over but yea, mine was pretty bad at UTC as well. I got all of my clinical questions right but like you, the nerve factor was high.
