EPIC/MEDHOST training

I am a new travel nurse with experience in EMR, but I am finding that many hospitals require EPIC experience (a few require Medhost) and will not even consider you if you do not have experience with these systems. Is there a way to gain experience on these systems without actually working in a facility? Can you take a class? Suggestions or ideas?

Really? They require Epic for regular, not just while they are transitioning to Epic? That seems odd to me as everyone customizes any EMR so you have to get training on their system regardless. For the same reason, there are no generic Epic classes as far as I am aware.

Well, I'm wrong. I've seen several hospital requirements for prior EPIC experience now. There is even an EPIC certification available, I'm guessing for super users. You might try contacting EPIC directly.

Ned....

While each system can customize their epic to suit their needs.....Epic still functions the same. Your order entry is the same, care plan screens are the same, flow sheet documentation is visually and functionally the same. While the facility might document certain things in certain places....Epic is functionally the same in each and every facility...and I am seeing more and more facilities require previous experience with Eoic in their postings.

Yes, NedRN, as you have already found, many facilities are requiring prior EPIC experience. I too found that there is a certification that you can get, but like you, I'm guessing that is for super users. I may try contacting EPIC directly. Thanks
